Cos

After developing an interest in the piano at the age of 13 and studying privately with a student of the legendary jazz great, Lenny Tristano, I studied classical music theory for four years in high school and continued this training at Five Towns College majoring in composition and piano.During this time, I also developed an interest in the guitar and began playing with several local club bands while being heavily influenced by "progressive" rock groups such as Yes, Kansas, Genesis, King Crimson, UK, Gentle Giant and Todd Rundgren's Utopia.

Through my late teens and early twenties, I played keyboards and guitar with a variety of rock, dance, club-date and wedding bands while constantly maintaining a substantial interest in composition. After years of being frustrated by the inability of bands I worked with to pursue original material and limited financial means, I chose to pursue other avenues to provide income while maintaining an active interest in writing and recording.I graduated at the head of my class from Suburban Technical School and worked as an engineering aide in the field of electronics for 2 years while continuing to write and record in a small studio in my basement.

Since then, that small studio has grown into a substantial MIDI studio which features 96 MIDI tracks, 16 digital audio tracks and rack-mounted outboard equipment. In addition, I have assumed control of the family owned Electrical Contracting firm based in Manhattan. The material presented was composed, arranged, performed, engineered, and sung by me in that studio.

Karais James

WELCOME TO “HEAVY METTLE,” CAN YOU HANDLE IT?
Karais James Artist Bio
“‘Great is worth the wait. There’s no deadline on greatness and no reason to rush art.”
- Karais James
Few artists attempt to escape from their muddled mazes of mediocrity. Still, fewer have the gall to step outside the circle of their stifling “Scarlet Letter,” ofKarais Jamesgenre. Karais James believes there is no such word - it’s a trap. He has an inherent and uncanny artistic perception that makes his artistry an exception to the rule. His genre is not rock, hard rock, or heavy metal - it’s pure molten tenacity.Karais James’ fuel is verve and vivaciousness. So, welcome to the “Heavy Mettle,” - can you handle it?
He knew, almost from birth, he was destined to be a front man, and it became his vision quest. To understand Karais’ artistic evolution, one must look into how he grew up. A product of two childhoods - due to divorce - his youth became a sort of “Tale of Two Cities.” He spent summers in New York City and winters in the rural town of Laurel, Mississippi. Each place gave him a different taste of music. Karais’ eclectic nature today is a product of early exposure to legendary bands that blared over NYC’s FM stations, such as Judas PriestGuns N’ Roses, and Iron Maiden.
On the other hand, it was the AM radio stations in Mississippi that offered him other stylistic influences. He explains, “I was hooked on the angry, obstinate hard rock and metal from The Big Apple, but don’t think for a second that I didn’t dig stuff I heard in Laurel such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.” Overall, he has lived the hard-knock life; he has paid his dues. He’s humbled himself to grow continuously and evolve as a musician. He writes, produces, and performs whatever he wants. “I write; therefore, I am,” he says.
Karais James with Ritchie ScarlettKarais James is quick to point out that being an artist is a gift, it’s not acquired, and you cannot retire from it. He is willing to humble himself to acquire the knowledge to get it done. Over decades in the music business, he’s been counted out thousands of times. However, he writes with a mantra of “never-say-die.” He composes and create from the “Warrior Perspective.” “I’m gonna’ take my bow and arrow, get on my horse and go to war with my art. I’ll either go home or die on the battlefield of bass, poetry, and percussion,” he explains.
Karais James is a rare artist, a true virtuoso, blessed with a musical I.Q. that rivals any other. He has put no deadline on his career, as there is no such date when the art within your soul expires. He quips, “My last breath will last six years ... more than enough time to write another new album.” Of Greek descent, While admiring the works of Roger WatersPink Floyd, and David Gilmore, Karais has no musical idols. He neither follows nor emulates anyone.
While Karais had the ability to break out big while he was in his twenties, but knew it wasn't his time. If he had done so, he admits “... I would be long dead by now.” His first successful foray into becoming a frontman was with his band Kerascene, a metal-hybrid band that melded metal with blues and gritty southern rock. With initial success, he soon realized that Kerascene was more of a stepping stone to something better.
He left Kerascene for a heavy rock band called Chemically Controlled Children- of which he still is their front man. “Chemically Controlled Children gave me the creative freedom that I longed for and needed,” he offers. He continues, “The band is a team effort, they bake the cake, I add the icing as a performer, producer, and composer.”
James Karais Performs LiveWhile working with Chemically Controlled Children Karais met and befriended two profoundly gifted producers. The two talents were Ray Detone and Ritchie Scarlett, (also known as, “The Emperor of Rock N’ Roll.”) While he has played with many A-List musicians over the years, both of these renowned musicians would lead to an epiphany and a renaissance in Karais’ music. With his creative confidence, he was still able to humble himself as a composer and instrumentalist to grow and advance via their advice. “I knew my guitar playing could be better ... so I called Ritchie, I told him to teach me what he knows,” said Karais. The result of this trio working together in the studio would beKarais James first solo release, As This Garden Burns.
As This Garden Burns, due for release in mid-summer 2016, stands as an apex and example of the totality of Karais’ abilities. It’s a ten-track, energetic and eclectic mix of genres. The album proves he is able and willing to cross over intoAs This Garden Burnsany genre he wants to play and forge it into something that works together in unison, without any pause. As This Garden Burns is art in its purest form. With pre-released singles which include; “Into The Sun,” “Learn to Fly,” and “The Longest Road,” Karais gives a brilliant and blinding glimpse of his musical journey outside the realm of genre, and fearlessly “Into The Sun.”
One can easily label Karais not only an artist but a philosopher. He follows a fellow Greek philosopher named Socrates. It is the teachings ofSocrates that catalyzes Karais’ constant goal to grow. He lives by his wisdom, such as, “True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing.” It is via this mantra that Karais has evolved into what he is today. Karais believes there is no timeline or deadline on great art; he will keep pushing until he is dead. However, with his latest solo release, As This Garden Burns, and also the upcoming release of Chemically Controlled Children's album, Karais James may have finally arrived. So, take some time to delve into Karais’ true artistic acumen. You could stay lost within the comforts of other musicians’ muddled mazes of mediocrity. Welcome to Karais’ “Heavy Mettle” ... Can you handle it?

iLLacrimo

"After a long way full of different experiences, two young brains meet again,in a moor between fog and melancholy near Milano. Davide-Kristof (son of Janos Acs, an important Conductor) and Federica Sararaise a project of European sounds, shuffle with the traditional Italian melody.
The solution is the perfect  combination of iLLacrimo"
They recorded with Matteo Cifelli (Betty Poison , Helene Fisher, Mike & the Mechanics, ecc) and
Andrea Cataldo a first "Ep", distribuited under Resisto in January 2015, with strong reception from
media (Rock Hard, Metal Hammer, All Music Italia ecc...)
They record the video of their song "Chains in the Cold", and they play at the famous Legend
Club in Milan with the band Sumo Cyco (Canada)
They play "Unplugged" in the Radio program LINEA ROCK with famous host Marco Garavelli
They are selected by Disney Channel Italia for a cameo in the show "Alex & co."
They play, as backup band, for NEIL ZAZA at the Dragon's Pub during his Europe Tour 2016.
They are selected by Kimmi Rudolph for her podcast "The Metal Deli", and their song conquest the 3rd place.
They have 3 songs in the Euro Indie Music Chart between January and May 2016, one of these in the TOP 20.
"This is an outstanding work to their credit and only suffers from not enough songs amongst all there is to be said, besides the consensus being this is one killer band. It loses half a point for only being five tracks in length, but otherwise it’s right on the money and they should be going places, hopefully with a full CD to follow."
by Larry Toering _Ventsmagazine
"A debut featured by charisma and personality"
Rock Hard
"A convincing debut that makes iLLacrimo a reality worth to be followed"
All Music Italia
"iLLacrimo display a drive being seen less and less amond unsigned and indie bands. This group is hungry"
Jammerzine
"This Ep changes the rules for female voiced gothic music"

Eve Selis - Fearless Heart - For Record of the Year

Eve Selis - Fearless Heart - For Record of the Year

Artist Biography
On See Me With Your Heart (her 9th studio album), produced by GRAMMY-winner Kenny Greenberg (Allison Moorer, The Mavericks, Joan Baez), Eve Selis delivers 11 songs forged in the fires of physical, emotional and spiritual healing.
A rollerblading accident in the summer of 2014 left this 7-time San Diego Music Award winner with a torn hamstring and 6 long months of rehabilitation. What would have been “down” time for some became a time of cleaning up, growing up and stepping up for Selis. This period of quiet introspection led her on a journey of honest self-discovery and planted the seeds of a new artistic vision in her fertile heart. She set out to write from a place of vulnerability and even more openness than ever before. “One positive thing that my injury did for me,” says Selis, “was to force me to slow down and be more present in my life. Unconditional love is a concept that runs throughout the songs on this CD, with unconditional love of myself being the hardest to accept.”

“These songs look deep into the truth of my life as I am today. I had to face the wounds without flinching and learn to celebrate the scars. We all have them and they make up who we are. Instead of being ashamed of the scars we should rejoice. It means we’ve healed, and that ultimately, ‘Love Has The Final Say.’”

The title track “See Me With Your Heart” was the first song written, and set the tone conceptually for the entire project. It was written as a submission for the animated film The Little Prince and captures the simple wisdom of that classic book— seeing past the external to the essential. And beyond that, letting love rule the day.

She enlisted her musical partner of 25 years, songwriter/guitarist Marc “Twang” Intravaia, to help finish the writing as well as her long-time Nashville collaborator Kim McLean and award-winning San Diego songwriter Calman Hart. When the songs were ready she knew she had something special and contacted Nashville producer/guitarist Kenny Greenberg to help her realize her vision. Greenberg and his team of Nashville’s finest added a new dimension to Selis’ music, creating at once a vast sonic soundscape for her powerhouse vocals and a lush intimate backdrop for the most personal songs of her career. See Me With Your Heart redefines who Eve Selis is as a singer, a songwriter and as an artist.

TIM BENTON’S ‘SCENES FROM A WELL-SPENT YOUTH Re-discovering the songs of 1965-75

TIM BENTON’S ‘SCENES FROM A WELL-SPENT YOUTH
Re-discovering the songs of 1965-75

Featuring songs written or made famous by Dusty Springfield, Simon & Garfunkel, Carole King, Bob Dylan, Neil Sedaka, Joni Mitchell, the Temptations, Bacharach & David, Shirley Bassey, Gene Pitney, Paul Williams, the Monkees, the Four Seasons, the Hollies, the 5th Dimension, the Fortunes.

Tim has been singing and acting from the age of 14, when he promised my father he'd never even think of a career in performing if he’d just let me buy a folk guitar. Since then Tim has appeared in clubs, cabarets and theatres around his homeland of New Zealand as well as Sydney, Melbourne and Hawaii. I have performed with the New Zealand National Opera company, sung as soloist with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and performed twice for the Governor General, the Queen’s representative in New Zealand.

Since leaving NZ in 2007 he has also performed in London and toured several times around the UK as well as in Ireland.

Musical theatre credits include Prof. Higgins (My Fair Lady), Magaldi (Evita), Pontius Pilate (Jesus Christ Superstar), Julian Marsh (42nd Street). Taking the role of Sydney Carton in the new musical A Tale of Two Cities, (dir. Paul Nicholas), Stage newspaper rated me “spot on” as the world-weary, alcoholic lawyer.

The musical treatments were devised together with Simon Wallace, leading arranger for film and TV (Absolutely Fabulous, Clive James Show) and collaborator with many top UK jazz and cabaret singers including Sarah Moule, Clare Teal, Ian Shaw, Pete Atkin, Gill Manly and Barb Jungr.

‘Scenes’ features gems from an under-explored stash of musical treasures I carry in my head - the songs I grew up with from 1965 to ’75.
It was a particularly fertile time for pop music. UK based-bands were storming charts around the world in the ‘British Invasion’. Detroit was driving the Motown sound, country rock and singer-songwriters were on the rise, there were Vietnam protest songs, hippie songs, and much, much more.
All that ferment created many great songs, even if they were heavily disguised at the time by chart-oriented pop arrangements.
Of course, being the songs of my youth, they also come tied up with all sorts of personal echoes of people, places and experiences past down-under in New Zealand. Working with producer and arranger Simon Wallace, I’ve plundered those memories to inform our own re-imaginings. I have a lot of friends to thank!
Songs with ‘good bones’
What we did is seek out songs with ‘good bones’. We tried to look beyond the original treatments and check under the bonnet for great tunes and interesting stories. Then, we let each song speak for itself with simple arrangements using just voice and Simon’s beautiful full sized grand piano, enhanced here and there with sounds from his magic box of electronic tricks.
Sometimes we stayed reasonably close to the original pop arrangement and simply performed it with the quite different point of view that experience and a changed world brings.
That worked well for many songs. For example ‘Aquarius’, once a clarion call to peace and love, today just seems poignant and sad. As does the whole idea of going to San Francisco with flowers in your hair.
Similarly, singing about ‘The Times They Are a-Changing’ from the perspective of six decades on has extra meaning. (Although that is one of the songs we did a little more to, by changing the time signature from ¾ waltz time to straight up 4/4.)
Some radical surgery
Actually, quite a number of the songs were given more radical surgery.
A great example is ‘I Who Have Nothing’. That’s normally associated with vocal histrionics and overblown orchestral backings. As a young man I used to perform it that way myself. But behind all that we found a very simple, plaintive song of unrequited love just waiting to be released.
And ‘My Eyes Adored You’, masquerading as a Vegas-style pop ballad, is actually a charming little love story.
It’s all a matter of letting go, giving the melody and the story space and time to breathe.
The New American Songbook goes international
As it happens, the vast majority of this selection are by American composers. This was due in part to an original intention to explore the ‘New American Songbook’, a term I think conjured up by a lady I greatly admire, Barb Jungr.
However, as collaborator Simon Wallace and I delved into the repertoire more deeply, there were some songs from British composers that just said “sing me”.
‘Bus Stop’, originally filled with jangling guitars and close Hollies’ harmonies is a beautifully observed gem that we think benefits from a ‘less is more’ approach. Underneath, it’s a gentle song with echoes of the English folk idiom.
It’s interesting to note that ‘Bus Stop’ was written by Graham Gouldman (later founder of 10cc) when he was just 16.
A lucky meeting
My collaboration with Simon came about quite by chance.
I was preparing a ‘demo disc’ of musical theatre songs and was keen to find a studio with a real piano, not just the electric keyboard most places tried to fob me off with.
Through contacts of contacts I eventually found a ‘real piano’ studio and almost had it booked. But the owner was getting out of the business and decided at the last minute to refer me on to Simon’s set-up which includes a lovely big Steinway
In casual conversation with Simon I mentioned I’d been considering a 60’s or 70’s-themed programme for some time. And Simon said “Why not?”. It was as simple, and lucky, as that.
(As I was to find, “why” is Simon’s favourite word. “Why did you choose this? Why are you singing it this way? Why is the character saying this?”. Questions that for the first time, helped me find my own way through songs.)
About Tim Benton
I began singing aged 14 when, after promising my father I’d never even think of a career in performing, he finally let me buy a folk guitar. Since then I've sung and acted in clubs, cabarets and theatres around New Zealand, in Sydney, Melbourne, Hawaii and London. I have also toured elsewhere in the UK as well as in Ireland.
A New Zealander, I moved to London in 2007.
That was a huge turning point for me because it introduced me (eventually) to two men who’ve had a huge influence on me.
The first was singing coach Howard Milner, formerly of the Royal Academy of Music but now sadly deceased. In a memorable year, Howard stripped away all sorts of bad vocal habits and screwed up thinking to free my technique.
The other is producer/arranger/accompanist Simon Wallace who persisted with me and made me start thinking harder than I ever had about what I sang. That process showed me ways I could bring new insights to songs – and not waste time on inappropriate material..
At the age of 60, I’ve finally found ‘my’ voice.
Performing credits
For the record I’ve performed with the New Zealand National Opera company, sung as soloist with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and with my acapella group, performed twice for the Governor General, the Queen’s representative in New Zealand. My cabaret work has covered the Great American Songbook, Sondheim, a tribute to Tony Bennett and most recently a return to my musical roots with Scenes from a Well-Spent Youth. That’s in addition to years in cover bands and cabaret (including a topless revue in Melbourne called ‘The Bare Necessity’ – but that’s another story).
Musical theatre credits include Prof. Higgins (My Fair Lady), Magaldi (Evita, NZ and Hawaii), Pontius Pilate (Jesus Christ Superstar), Jean Valjean (Les Mis), Julian Marsh (42nd Street). In London, I played Sydney Carton in the new musical A Tale of Two Cities, dir. Paul Nicholas. The UK’s Stage newspaper rated me “spot on” as the world-weary, alcoholic lawyer.
About Simon Wallace
Producer, arranger, composer and pianist on the project is Simon Wallace.
Simon has worked with some of the UK's most respected names in music, theatre and television. Together with Simon Brint he composed music for top TV series including Absolutely Fabulous, The Clive James ShowThe Ben Elton Show and many more. He toured internationally with the Lindsay Kemp company, and was musical director for the West End production of Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens.
With beat generation poet and lyricist Fran Landesman, Simon has written songs recorded by leading artists on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1986, he was commissioned to compose a symphony for the King of Thailand's 60th birthday: a further commission came in 2006 for the King’s 60th jubilee, Simon has also acted as musical director, arranger, producer or accompanist (and frequently in all four roles) for Barb Jungr, Clare Teal, Ian Shaw, Sarah Moule, Pete Atkin, and Gill Manly.

Susan Aquila

Susan Aquila

New York City artist Susan Aquila is shaking up the world of Rock. She is the first electric violinist/singer to break through to the mainstream rock market in a big way. Her music blends metal, rock and punk and her incendiary electric violin solos are being heralded as: “… the hottest thing to hit rock since Van Halen recorded Eruption! She’s like the Jimi Hendrix of the electric violin and her vocal style is vibrant and dripping with soul. She combines the artistry of Blondie with the raw power of Janis!!”*
Susan is a double Grammy Nominee for Best New Artist and Best Rock Album of the year for her previous release “Broken Angel”, which propelled her into the top 5 in ReverbNation’s Artists Trending in the New York City Area, a position she held for six months.
She has performed and recorded the world over with the greatest icons of Rock, including: Paul McCartney, Elton John, Billy Joel, Beyonce, Brittney Spears, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Josh Groban, Roger Daltry, Steven Tyler, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Jay Z, Barry Manilow and a host of others.
In the past year, she has completed several national tours. Her onstage killer performances knocked out audiences from Maine to Florida and paired her with important Rock artists such as Lita Ford, Tantric and Soil. The excitement generated by her touring schedule is amping up the anticipation for her upcoming CD, Miss Conduct, which will debut in January, 2016 on Original Kitchen Records with music and lyrics by Rob Tomaro. New CD:  “Miss Conduct” by Susan Aquila, music and lyrics by Rob Tomaro – Original Kitchen Records – OKR-CD0002
Rock singer and electric violinist Susan Aquila’s new CD “Miss Conduct” is shaking up the doldrums of the rock scene in America.  Reviewers and radio Music Directors alike proclaim:  “You have never heard anything like this before.”     She has just cracked the top 10 on the ReverbNation charts on the East Coast and the top 100 on the ReverbNation Worldwide charts.   Her first single from the album: “Why” is being played on terrestrial active rock radio coast to coast.   Here is a sampling of some reviews:
                                                ***
“I have been listening to it over and over.  That is my kind of rock song!!” -  John Rhodes, Program Director, 97.3 The Rock, Dubuque, Iowa
                                                ***
“She does amazing things with the electric violin!!”  - Bill Hall, DJ, WDHA, 105.5 FM, New Jersey.
                                                ***
Album review:  “Miss Conduct” by Susan Aquila, music and lyrics by Rob Tomaro – Susan Aquila – lead vocals and electric violin.

Review from February 9, 2016 -  AEA Zine
“My first impression of Susan’s vocal style is of a “cleaner” Wendy O. Williams.  She delivers the vocals in a husky, hard rock style that you would expect from a genre like this.   The songs are punchy and hit just as hard as they should.  Susan knows how to craft a track well.   Although Susan’s the star, the rest of the band is pretty great, too.  There is some awesome lead guitar sprinkled throughout, as well.

If you’re into rock, this is an album for all occasions.  I have never heard the violin used in this manner.  Susan’s violin delivers an extra dimension to the sound, yet never distracts from the thrust you would expect from an album like this”.

A native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Solomon grew up as a PK (Preacher’s Kid) and was exposed to the ministry of music early in his childhood. He is the oldest of three siblings and began playing the bass guitar at age 15 with his family’s gospel quartet, The Edmond Family. Solomon’s passion for playing the keyboard ultimately lead him to a career as a minister of music for over 25 years. He has since began focusing on the creation and production of the music that has always been a part of his being yet was forbidden to be expressed...Love Songs and Life Music!
In 1977, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Atlanta College of Arts and pursue a degree in graphic design. He was very excited about a promising future as a design artist and dreamed of one day owning his own graphic design company. But little did he know, there would be a divine interruption of his plans – one that almost took his life. While attending college, Solomon became deathly ill and had to drop out of school. He moved back home with his parents in South Georgia and was convalescent for several years. He was finally diagnosed with Sarcoidosis of the lungs.
Solomon made his debut in the “Life Music” category with his release of Together Again in 2007, a soulful compilation of jazz, rooted in gospel with a mild mix of Latin and R&B beats. The CD is a tribute to his first cousin, Jonathan Dubose. Solomon has since released CD’s entitled “Love Language”, “The B-Side”,  “Smooth Soul” and “LIV.” His latest release is entitled “Your Face.”
